In a landmark decision that will be sure to have some effects here in Vegas, the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday struck down the federal ban on sports gambling. The decision means that individual states will now be able to decide whether or not to implement legal betting on sports. Nevada has been the only state where legal sports gambling is allowed but that is all set to change. New Jersey is in the forefront of states eager to offer legal sports betting. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in overturning the 1992 law which prohibited sports betting in all states except Nevada and was challenged by New Jersey in 2012. New York, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi are among other states set to fast track legislation to allow their residents to legally wager on sports.
